From the beginning of the current season (1 July 2023) to 13 October, EU countries exported 6,641.0 thousand tons of common wheat, 29% less than in the same period last season. This was reported by the Grain On-Line agency, citing the European Commission. Exports of durum wheat increased two and a half times to 163.9 thousand tons.
The largest buyers of soft wheat of European origin were Nigeria (991.1 thousand tons), Egypt (691.7 thousand tons), Morocco (502.8 thousand tons), Great Britain (484.5 thousand tons) and Algeria (450.7 thousand tons).
The export potential of European common wheat has been greatly reduced in the current season due to poor harvests. According to the Organization of European Cereal Traders (COCERAL), the gross harvest of common wheat in the EU amounted to 114.9 million tonnes (126.4 million tonnes last season). Durum wheat production rose to 7.5 (7.4) million tons.
EU imports of common wheat rose to 2.6 million tons in the first fifteen weeks of the current season, 7% more than last season. Soft wheat deliveries came mainly from Ukraine (1.89 million tons).
