Under the given weather conditions, sugar production in Ukraine will amount to 1.7-1.8 million tons in the 2024/25 marketing year.
This is reported by Oleksandr Korotynskyi, Director of the Center for Sugar Beet Production and member of the Agribusiness Committee of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in an article for The Ukrainian Farmer magazine.
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, the area under sugar beet cultivation this year amounted to no more than 250 thousand hectares – almost the same as last year.
“The average yield of sweet roots on the harvested areas is 46 tons/hectare, which also corresponds to last year’s figures. The best yields are harvested in the west of Ukraine, where weather conditions were more favorable. Fewer root crops per hectare are harvested in the central regions of the country, particularly in the Poltava, Cherkasy and Vinnitsa oblasts. However, the sugar content is slightly higher there, even if it does not compensate for the difference in yields,” said Oleksandr Korotynskyi.
