Ukraine reports lowest grain and oilseed exports in 8 years

In August and September, Ukrainian grain is usually actively shipped in all directions. But this year the ports and settling basins are empty. There are a number of factors that have affected the logistics market.

This was reported by Alexander Solovey, co-founder of Spike Brokers, during the forum “Grain and processing: development despite war – 2024”.

“This year we will see the lowest exports of grain and oilseeds in the last 8 years. Grain will be moved in smaller quantities, which generally characterizes the liquidity of the market. The situation related to the war has encouraged the development of export alternatives towards the Danube and by land,” says the expert.

Ukraine increased its exports by land (road and rail) from 3% to 13%. Exports along the Danube increased from 0% to 11%, and investments were made in this direction, which improved efficiency and reduced the cost of transshipment. The price for transhipment of grain is up to USD 10 per ton and even less for oilseeds.
