The head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Oksana Lut, reported on the status of field work at a meeting between the President and members of the government, according to the Ministry of Agriculture’s Telegram channel.
As of September 11, around 70% of the grain-growing areas have been harvested. More than 97 million tons of grain have been harvested, including 72 million tons of wheat. The quality of the grain is much better than last year.
According to Luth, the Ministry of Agriculture is sticking to its forecast of 132 million tons of grain production by the end of the year. Exports could reach 60 million tons this season.
Farmers in almost all federal districts have started sowing winter cereals, and around 5.5 million hectares have already been sown. According to the ministry’s plans, the total area for sowing winter crops will be around 20 million hectares.
This year, the share of Russian breeding successes in sunflowers, soybeans, rapeseed and sugar beets has increased significantly, said the ministry director.
“Despite the objective difficulties associated with weather conditions, our country’s farmers are doing everything necessary to achieve decent results at the end of this year and create a strong base for 2025. For our part, we will continue to provide comprehensive support to producers and respond promptly to any acute problems that arise. The country’s food security will be guaranteed for sure,” said Oksana Lut.
