Exports of Ukrainian sunflower meal decreased to 290 thousand tons in July this season. This is 28% less than in June, but 12% more than in July last year and the highest volume in the last 4 seasons, according to APK-Inform.

At the same time, it should be noted that exports of Ukrainian products to China decreased to 179 thousand tons (-16%), while the volume of deliveries to the European Union increased to 102 thousand tons (+4%). The relative share of deliveries to the two countries amounted to 42% and 37% respectively. In total, exports of sunflower meal from Ukraine at the end of September-July 2023/24 amounted to almost 4.5 million tons, which is the highest value for the said period in the last four seasons.

According to the European Commission, the EU did not import Russian sunflower meal in July 2024, preferring Ukrainian (78%) and Argentinian (14%). For the first time in a long time, sunflower meal of Kazakh origin was also imported (4% share of total imports in July). At the same time, the share of imports of Russian sunflower meal in the 2023/24 season (for the EU from July to June) was almost 27% (22% in the 22/23 marketing year).

It should be recalled that the EU imposes import duties on products of Russian and Belarusian origin, so supplies of Ukrainian flour to the European market are increasing.

Earlier it became known that the volume of sunflower processing in July continued to decline and amounted to just over 1 million tons, which is 10% less than in June. The forecast for sunflower processing in the 2023/24 season has been increased to 15.2 million tons (+7% compared to the previous estimate and +9% compared to the last season).
