The European Commission approved the $34 billion merger between Bunge and Viterra on Thursday, according to Reuters.

“The European Commission has cleared the proposed acquisition of Viterra Limited by Bunge Global S.A. under the EU Merger Regulation. The clearance is conditional on full compliance with the commitments proposed by the parties,” it said.

A year ago, the companies announced an agreement to create one of the world’s largest agribusiness companies to compete with market leaders ADM and Cargill.

It should be recalled that Bunge and Viterra signed a definitive merger agreement in June 2023, creating an agribusiness giant valued at around USD 34 billion.
